Energy supply during competitions has always been a challenge for endurance athletes. Due to the intensive strain, the body needs energy, whereby consuming high amounts of carbohydrates during physical effort can result in slower gastric emptying and GI distressat.
In collaboration with numerous universities and top athletes, Maurten has developed a new method to drastically increase the amount of carbohydrates supplied through hydrogel technology without any side effects for digestion.
From a technical perspective, traditional gels are water and carbohydrates simply mixed into syrups, often containing added flavors and preservatives. The GEL 100 is completely different. It is a biopolymer matrix, filled with a unique blend of fructose and glucose (ratio of 0.8:1). The hydrogel makes the absorption of up to 100 grams of carbohydrates per hour tolerable, because it encapsulates carbohydrates and salts and allows a rapid transport of nutrients into the intestines, where they are finally absorbed. The gel is based on six natural ingredients, has no colorants or preservatives and is available in 40 g portions containing 60% carbohydrates - a high energy-to-weight ratio. With this product athletes have the necessary power to finally unfold their full potential - naturally and stomach-friendly.

The drink is free of added flavours, preservatives, colourings or acids. The powder contains no more and no less than what the body really needs. The mixture with water results in a sports drink with a high concentration of maltodextrin and fructose.
What is the difference between Drink Mix and other carbohydrate powders? The key is the use of two dietary fibres of natural origin: alginate and pectin. Combined under precisely the right circumstances, the two dietary fibers form a pH-sensitive hydrogel which is able to encapsulate salts and carbohydrates. The contact with the gastric acid converts the drink into a gel and thus enables a flowing and rapid transport of the drink to the intestine, where the ingredients are quickly absorbed. With Drink Mix athletes have the necessary power to finally develop their full potential - naturally and stomach-friendly.
Possible Applications of MAURTEN Drink Mix 160/320
Before the training/competition: Maurten can be used as a carboloader before competitions. A simple possibility is to drink two Drink Mix 160 or 1 drink mix 320 the day before the race.
During workout/competition: The amount of carbohydrates required depends on various factors. One of them is the duration of the exercise. When running or cycling for 60 minutes or less, the recommended intake is up to 40 Gramm carbohydrates at the beginning of physical exertion. For short workouts a Mix Drink 160 is therefore sufficient.
After the training/competition: After a workout, the body needs carbohydrates for effective recovery. A Dink Mix 160 can be taken within 30 minutes after the end of the session.
Maurten's recommended use: Mix the content of each sachet with 500 ml of water and shake well until dissolved. Be careful, you need to get the ratio right for the hydrogel technology to work. The mix is designed to be mixed with water with less than 40mg/L calcium content. Higher levels can affect how it's dissolved.
