Functionality

Oval chainrings follow the natural human physiology. They maximize the pedaling force as it is developed and minimize drag when it is missing. As a result, oval chainrings allow the rider to soften and stay looser in the climb. 

In fact, your pedal kick will feel "rounder" with an oval chainring than a round chainring. 

Advantages of Oval Chainrings

Compared to round chainrings, the use of oval chainrings targets more muscle groups - but each of them to a lesser degree. The total load of the pedaling is thus distributed to a larger muscle mass and the knees are less strained.

This results in three advantages: 1. The legs stay fresher and more relaxed. 2. You can drive uphill faster. 3. HOW TO MOUNT E*THIRTEEN OVAL CHAINRING:

E*thirteen mounting instruction of a chainring

You will need E*Thirteen BB Install/Spider Removal Tool first. With this tool you need to simply open the lockring that holds the chainring on the crank. It's best to clamp that tool in a vice and Turn the crank counter-clockwise (looking from the top). Once the lockring is removed, take off old chainring and re-grease the splines on the crank. Place new oval chainring with convex side to the crank, but at the same time observing the small dimple (located next to spline interface) to be aligned with center of the crank arm. This is crucial to obtain correct chainring position. Now, place the lockring back. Since you will not be able to use torque tool, please do the following steps: Screw the lockring to the point where it starts to give you bigger resistance (as it touches the chainring now). From this point rotate the crank arm further by about 90 degrees. This will give you proper 30Nm locking force. Done

Oval (elliptical) chainring does not compromise the work of clutch mechanism in rear derailleur(video at the bottom). It also does not require chain tensioner when using in singlespeed application. These chainrings also help you to recover after knee injuries as pedaling becomes smoother and less exhausting. It is the most advanced oval chainring currently on the market.

There is a small mark (triangle shaped) on the inner circumference of the chainring.

This mark Must sit behind the crank arm. Please note that original Sram bolts are too short to mount this chainring. Use provided bolts and torque them to 5-7Nm.

Ovality of the chainring is in range of 10.2-14.4%(size dependent) and feels perfectly round when riding. HOW TO MOUNT 110 bcd/4 OVAL CHAINRING:

First you need to remove crank from the bike. Once removed, unscrew 4 bolts that hold two original rings together with T-30 torx key. Take off both original rings. Position Absoluteblack oval chainring in place where the big chainring was. Please note that small indicator on the chainring Must sit behind crank arm - same way as original chainring indicates its position. Use provided AB bolts to lock the chainring in place using T-30 torx key with force of about 5-7Nm. Mount your crank back to the bike. Done

HOW TO MOUNT E*THIRTEEN OVAL CHAINRING:

E*thirteen mounting instruction of a chainring

You will need E*Thirteen BB Install/Spider Removal Tool first. With this tool you need to simply open the lockring that holds the chainring on the crank. It's best to clamp that tool in a vice and Turn the crank counter-clockwise (looking from the top). Once the lockring is removed, take off old chainring and re-grease the splines on the crank. Place new oval chainring with convex side to the crank, but at the same time observing the small dimple (located next to spline interface) to be aligned with center of the crank arm. This is crucial to obtain correct chainring position. Now, place the lockring back. Since you will not be able to use torque tool, please do the following steps: Screw the lockring to the point where it starts to give you bigger resistance (as it touches the chainring now). From this point rotate the crank arm further by about 90 degrees. This will give you proper 30Nm locking force. Done
